AWAKE TOO EARLY FOR SENCE! AND OUR HOLE!

So after our lovely day off yesterday where me along with two other lovely Vis commers dug ourselves a three man sized hole down at the beach!! Productive? I think not! but having complete strangers come over and ask if we'd hit water yet or saying things like hows Australia? it became strangely relaxing and satisfying !! we are heading in today to just crack on with our projects will keep you in formed!

GROUP POSTER..

Today apart from the slight miss understanding in the morning was all in all a good day! the sun came out to play and we got put into groups to design a poster to promote type radio...We were in groups of 4-5 its always interesting to work in groups as everyone will always have shared opinions on things etc. anyway we all got set dates for a tutorial in our groups with Catell Ronca, she was really helpful and as our poster was finished by the time our tutorial came around she helped us out on our main project were working on :)

It came round to the crit in the afternoon our work didn't get slated which is always good! but there was a lot of heated discussions among the whole of first year vis com!

INDESIGN

We carried on with our 2nd indesign tutorial today, found it realy quite easy to pick up in the end which was a bonus!!!

DESIGNER!

So today I got given my designer for type radio, which we picked out of an urm pencil tin? anyway I picked the Typographer R.K. Joshi ... not particularly  a fan of any of his work if I'm honest but maybe this is just due to the fact I don't understand it? who knows maybe I will when I research into him more.... also this may not be a bad thing!

We also went onto type radio.org today and transcribed an interview with our designer.... for the text on our magazine spreads. which I found extremely tedious as he speaks way tooo fast for his own good!

This afternoon we had a half day project which was pretty cool actually, we had to pick a word from our transcript and without using the macs create a form of typography... although I didn't finish mine i think from the feedback I got my idea worked pretty well even unfinished.

TYPE RADIO!

We got given our new brief today on type radio!! sounds like a pretty challenging project and alot of work but interesting al the same! looks like not only will we be improving our layout skills but learning about the history of current typographers which is something that Im really into.. 

We don't get given our designer until tomorrow so today I have just started researching general type radio to get the ball rolling...

ANIMATION HANDED IN WOOP!

I handed in my animation today which was like the urrr best feeing in the world!!! as the 2nd years where right how insane does flash make you!?

NOW TO CONQUER THE FLASH WEBSITE FOR JOHN BEFORE OUR NEW BRIEFING ON MONDAY....

FINAL CRIT FOR FLASH UH OOOOO!

I didn't go to this as I thought it was more important to get my work handed in on time the next day! as I was slightly behind because I stupidly deleted near enough all my work to date two days before the deadline.IDIOT!!

I spoke to Neil and explained and the understanding man that he is just told me to see him later which I did and all was well!

TYPE WORKSHOP ROUND 3 :)

GOOD DAY AGAIN IN THE END! I was kind of panicking about the fact I put my name down for this workshop as hand in is nearing for flash! but neil told us we could have until thursday instead of weds for our final hand in and weds for our final crit which was goooood news :)

In the workshop we got to put the type we designed in our last session with Sally into Illustrator ready for next thurs and fri's sessions when were learning how to use font lab!! I also got taught how to use illustrator properly today for the first time by the one and only Lewis aka wolfgang thanks dude :)

NO UNI TODAY! :) then Flash workshop

BEACH TIME ! A few of us went to the beach today it was GOOD TIMES! we drew some... took photos some... and just generally had a crack :) 

At 5 we then had to head in for our Flash session with John!

FLASH!

We had flash again today with John... we missed a session last we thanks to the extreme weather conditions in Bournemouth!

BOOK DESIGN TALK

We had a talk on book design today by a lady thats set up her own successful business over in the enterprise building on campus. (more on this to come when I find my notes opsi ha!) she did show us some of her work though which was really insightful.

GROUP TUTORIALS

We had our first lot of group tutorials today for our screen based project! Basically I got the go ahead for my statistic I found on my idea of promoting casinos in Britain (don't ask I'm a closet gambler) 

NOW TIME TO CRACK ON WITH MY STORYBOARD THEN MY ANIMATION WOOP!!! defiantly quite exited by this but as we've been told by the second years the excitement may not last long AT ALL, PANTS! :(

SCREEN_BASED_COMMUNICATION

NEW EXITING BRIEF!!! 

We got set our new brief today which was to create an animation in flash lasting 30 -90 seconds on a statistic of our choice! 

Also we started the flash workshops... A LONG DAY!

HANDED IN ON TIME :)

Today was our hand in for Amnesty, YES YES! DONE! :)

We also had a talk from one of the designers from Amnesty International this afternoon which at the time felt kind of pointless and I was even um-ing and r-ing weather to even turn up because Amnesty was over, but I went as she'd made the effort to come all the way from London just to chat to us, it would of been rude not to! and I found it was still extremely beneficial for our portfolio (as she gave us feedback on our final pieces) and also for future projects mainly to see how designers actually work to tight deadlines etc...

we also got lots of free goodies BONUS! 

TYPE WORKSHOP!

The start of the type workshop was today with Sally Castle (a type designer from reading) near me :)  a absolutely lovely lady!

The morning dragged abit but as the day went on it got alot better! The afternoon came and we were told to experiment with type which involved finding anything we wanted and just going crazy with it using ink and paint! MESSYNESS :)

FINAL AMNESTY CRIT!

YES,YES!!! our final crit for amnesty was today and things are on the up! my new posters where liked! so looks like all the work payed off  good times :)

CRIT TODAY! GONE TOMORROW :(

So.. today was one of those annoyingly productive days where you realize you have spent loads of time and effort on a design that really pretty much sucks so to speak!!

but... after my crit, my change of plan and ALOT of work my poster is looking alot better so thanks guys for my constructive criticism!!! :)
